Why Choose STMA Youth Wrestling?

From the basics of stance and takedowns to the discipline of competition, our program gives every athlete the tools and confidence to succeed — on the mat and beyond.

FUNDAMENTAL WRESTLING SKILLS

Athletes learn proper techniques including stance, balance, takedowns, escapes, and mat awareness.

STRENGTH & ATHLETIC DEVELOPMENT

Practices focus on coordination, agility, flexibility, and overall fitness in a fun, age-appropriate way.

CONFIDENCE & DISCIPLINE

Kids develop mental toughness, goal setting, and respect for teammates, coaches, and opponents.

COMPETITION OPPORTUNITIES

We offer team and individual opportunities for all ages and experience levels, from new to advanced. Wrestlers can participate in local youth tournaments if they choose, but competition is always optional. Our different teams also offer options for our wrestlers throughout the season.

FAMILY-FRIENDLY COMMUNITY

We create a welcoming environment where parents, athletes, and coaches support one another.

Who Can Join?

Our program is open to:

  • Boys and girls Pre K–6th grade from St. Michael-Albertville District 885
  • Beginners with no experience
  • Returning wrestlers who want to improve their skills
  • Kids interested in both recreational and competitive wrestling

Everyone is welcome — no prior wrestling experience required.

What Your Child Will Gain

By joining STMA Wrestling, athletes develop:

  • Self-confidence
  • Strong work ethic
  • Sportsmanship
  • Physical fitness
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Lasting friendships

Many of our wrestlers go on to compete in middle school and high school wrestling programs, but most importantly, they gain skills that help them succeed in life.

New to Wrestling?

If your child has never wrestled before, you’re in the right place.  Youth wrestling is a safe, structured sport where kids are matched by age and weight class, so there’s no need to worry about your child competing against someone much bigger or older. Our program focuses on teaching the basics in a fun, encouraging environment — no experience necessary to sign up!

Check out the video below from 2x Olympic Champion John Smith explaining the basics of wrestling, then take a look at our parent presentation from the 2025-2026 season to learn more about what to expect.
